Purpose & Overview
The purpose of the New Jersey Automotive Repair Program is to
foster greater implementation of green practices among automotive
repair facilities and to recognize those facilities that implement
such measures.
This program is being implemented as a partnership between the New Jersey Coalition of Automotive Retailers (NJ CAR), the New Jersey Gasoline C-Store Automotive Association (NJGCA), the Alliance of Automotive Service Providers (AASP) and the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP). In order to properly implement this program, NJ the groups have formed a non-profit entity called the New Jersey Green Automotive Repair Council. The NJDEP will provide guidance and oversight of this Council.
The purpose of the Council is to establish criteria for certifying
automtoive repair facilities in New Jersey by setting quantifiable
standards for certification, providing resources for repair facility
owners and consumers to educate them on the benefits of going green.
Funding for certification of NJGARP auto repair facilities will be
derived from fees paid by facilities that desire to apply for
certification, in addition to grants and awards that may be obtained
by the Council.
The Council will review applications submitted by facilities,
conduct assessments to verify information listed on such applications
and determine whether or not a facility meets the criteria for NJGARP
certification.
The Council will develop a website to disseminate information about
the program, provide resource information and educate auto repair
facility owners and consumers about the benefits of going green, and
provide a listing of facilities that are NJGARP certified.
